Lyrics:

After I Write All Their Songs

When the writing is over and my fingers start to groan
It’s like someone’s slighting my efforts to keep writing on
Nobody knows the hit maker that I’ve been for so long
Big singers take the glory after I write all their songs

I smile and write the songs that cheer the big star singers bones
But this old background empty feeling keeps on hanging on
Sometimes I wish the spotlight would shine on me right or wrong
Big singers take the glory after I write all their songs

(Instrumental)

All the world is a stage but not for those who only write
I’m starting to show my age, my fingers are turning white
Sometimes I wish the spotlight would shine on me right or wrong
Big singers take the glory after I write all their songs

Sometimes I wish the spotlight would shine on me right or wrong
Big singers take the glory after I write all their songs
Sometimes I wish the spotlight would shine on me right or wrong
Big singers take the glory after I write all their songs

Lots of regret and not too much bitterness; I think this hits the mark well for its lyrical intent!

Thanks Cindy. When I created my LPFM (Low Power FM) radio station KKCR (Kingwood Kowboy Country Radio) with almost 800 songs, each track is introduced giving interesting historical information on the songwriter, producer, record label, etc. A lot of hidden stories live behind the star singer.

It feels rather ironic if I think that a big singer would find his/her way into this and bring even more truth to this story. We all want to be recognized and I truly hope we all are someday

Otis Blackwell wrote many songs (All Shook Up & others) for Elvis Presley but he never met Elvis in person. Songwriters will always be behind the stage curtain.

Yes indeed! As always, you have utterly balanced the truth and the emotion that goes with it.
