Liner Notes:

I have no idea where this one came from.

Lyrics:

V1
In a little town in the eastern mountains
Lived a young girl, fair and true
Her eyes were bright, and her smile brighter
There was nothing she couldn't do

But her father was a tyrant
And an abuser and a drunk
Every day there were fresh marks and bruises
But she never lost her spunk

One day she'd finally had enough
She walked in the through the front door
Shot him dead in his recliner
Now he damages her no more

C
Sometimes enough is finally enough
Gotta do what you gotta do
Don't criticize or judge her
What do you do to get through?

V2
In a big city on the western coastline
Lived a young boy, smart and fast
His wit was keen, and his body keener
He would have a career that would last

But his mother was a gambler
Lost their house and cars and stuff
Every week came more collectors
But he was always damn tough

One day the big boss sent his cronies
To rough her up and probably more
He shot them dead in their Mercedes
He'd had enough of this war

C
Sometimes enough is finally enough
Gotta do what you gotta do
Don't criticize or judge him
What do you do to get through?

Sometimes enough is finally enough
Gotta do what you gotta do
Don't criticize or judge them
What do you do to get through?

Wow! This is so powerful and pointed. The two stories are so compelling and complex in terms of how they end. It is a strong message. And while not judging the people one I think has to question how we create better systems to help and protect all - all four people are victims in the song which is what makes it so compelling and sad.

Have you been reading the paper again? or listening to Martina McBride? It's a sad commentary on what's been going on for a long, long time. I hope it remains fiction in our lives.
