Liner Notes:

A very important person in many lives, passed away this morning.

Kim Larsen was a Danish poet and singer since the 60's. First as the frontman in Gasolin, then also with sideprojects and later on as a solo artist.

His songs are sung and played at weddings, funerals, in schools and at parties and he will be missed in Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia.

I listened a lot to his music as a child but some of his later music was not my style or my taste just changed.

Today I just realised how big an impact his music has had on me and so many others.

Here's a song called 'The Best To Me And My Friends' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2ze0Yrjac8

You proberbly won't understand a word, but maybe the energy and recognize the feeling that you lost something you didn't know you had. His music lives on for many years though.

I tried to capture some of the feelings that was overwhelming me today. Not sure if I succeeded, but this is an other song, which is quite ok for me now.

Lyrics:

I was jumping up and down
with the springs in the sofa and gravity
mesmerised by the sound
of the mix tape anthology

YOU WERE THERE – ALL ALONG
YOU WERE THERE – ALL ALONG

Working hard on my daddys farm
really to short to reach the clutch
put on the record and moved the arm
and your waves of sound gave me such a rush

YOU WERE THERE – ALL ALONG
YOU WERE THERE – ALL ALONG

Kissed a girl behind a tree
Felt the sensation of coming of age
she rode away on a black pony
so I took a guitar and went to the stage

YOU WERE THERE – ALL ALONG
YOU WERE THERE – ALL ALONG

And when I sing your tunes
in that sofa I had since I was a child
I can clearly hear you
like a mentor, like a light in my life

YOU WERE THERE – ALL ALONG
YOU WERE THERE – ALL ALONG

Now I'm jumping up and down
with the springs in the sofa and gravity
mesmerised by the sound
of the mix tape anthology

I just read up a bit on Kim Larsen to understand your song better - thanks for sharing that. Your song is drenched in memories - love the images of jumping on the sofa. I have similar childhood memories of listening to my parents' music associated with specific rooms in the house. I have an emotional connection to some songs and artists I heard as a young person, even if I didn't enjoy those artists so much as I grew older. I think you have done a fine job of capturing the feeling of loss and nostalgia - and it seems a fitting tribute.
