Liner Notes:

When you suffer from chronic depression, trying to write a melancholic lyric can risk triggering things that are best left untriggered, but I'm pleased with the wistful tone of this one.

Lyrics:

I guess we've reached the final curtain
'cause all good things come to an end
And while the future looks uncertain
I will still think of us as friends

We can't keep playing in the sunshine
That's not the way this story goes
But while we're waiting for the punchline
To the joke that we both know
I'll see you down the road

The last dance draws to its conclusion
Behind the bar they're calling time
for us to shatter the illusion
and you go your way, I'll go mine

We can't keep playing in the sunshine
That's not the way this story goes
But while we're waiting for the punchline
To the joke that we both know
I'll see you down the road

It's much too late to change the outcome
What we both did is set in stone
That second chance was never welcome
So I'll be walking home alone

We can't keep playing in the sunshine
That's not the way this story goes
But while we're waiting for the punchline
To that joke that we both know
I'll see you down the road

Great sound to the guitars (as usual) and the mix. The low range in the vocal gives this an almost existential perspective. Like a peek into the mind as opposed to a person revealing themselves. And I like that the darkness is semi-subtle. Using the loss of sunshine and the road as metaphor for leaving to intimate a separation or or a final moment. Overall it feels whole and strong and not weak. Maybe not a sense of optimism but at least a sense of courage.

Kind of a Dire Straits or Mark Knopfler solo feel to this-- the romantic feel with the melodic guitar leads and such. I like what you've done a lot here.

love the see you down the road hook, and with the lead guitar wandering along with you it's like some kind of solitary company.
