Liner Notes:

Inspired by the cigar box guitar blues that @Roddy has been posting. I listened to the second one about three times and this is what I got.

Lyrics:

Gimme Back What You Stole

I used to have security
I used to have a life
I used to have a family
I raised ’em with my wife
Now she and they done disappeared
Straight into your black hole
Gimme back
Gimme back
What you stole

I used to go to honky-tonks
To hear the ring and twang
Now I’m still reeling from the knock
Feel like the songs they sang
There ain’t no glue for broken hearts
No bandage for my soul
Gimme back
Gimme back
What you stole

I used to see where I was bound
I kept it in my sights
Now I’m here in the lost and found
And you turned out the lights
You coaxed my woman from our bed
With voodoo mind control
Gimme back
Gimme back
What you stole

I can hear the country twang in this. Nice lyric

Powerful and pointed words. Strong writing and structure. I could also hear it as more punk rock with a real attitude coming through.

I love that middle verse everyone especially “feel like the songs they sang” great write!

wonderful cleverness that does not overshadow the clear emotional suffering behind the words. that's the blues done right!

I love the line “there ain’t no glue for broken hearts, no bandage for my soul”.

Also, “voodoo mind control”, what is that and where can I get me some? I seriously need it for my teenagers.
