Enjoyed doing a few lyrical co-writes with Nancy today across the Madison isthmus!

I sent Nancy a few lines for a couple of songs and asked her if she would like to take turns with me adding lines to build a song. I love writing lyrics with others like this as t is always a surprise where the song will go. I was delighted when she not only said yes but agreed to do the music!

I love the soft jazzy feel of the and the lovely flow of the melody like - great phrasing too. What a delightful exchange and wonderful song that emerged. Thanks, Nancy!

Lyrics:

V1
wading in the dark and deep
as the cold water rises
fear chills my mind
as the cold water rises

V2
swirling in the lies and loss
as the vast whirlpool widens
holding back the tide
as the vast whirlpool widens

C
and then warm love pours down
flooding my open heart
submerging past reality
drowning doubts of you and me
building hope...
hope of what could be....

V3
swimming in the surf and sun
as a soft rainbow beckons
reaching for the shore
as a soft rainbow beckons

C
and then warm love pours down
flooding my open heart
submerging past reality
drowning doubts of you and me
building hope...
hope of what could be....

Love the Rhodes piano (and the vibes). The Rhodes is a really magical sound. The melody in the chorus is really intriguing.

There's a lot to like about the lyric. Cold water rising AND warm love pouring down. Lots of contrast, the hopes and doubts, water images that are threatening and sweet, warm and cold.

Lovely tune, I listened three times. The ending is again mysterious, starting to wander around a bit.

Saw "jazzy" and "keys"...had to listen. Quite glad I did.
This was a treat...I haven't been fortunate enough to catch enough of these kind of tracks on here yet.
The keys...did my ears and heart good this day.
And a soft voice singing the great lyrics.
For some reason, and I'm guessing because of the pitch of the voice and keys, I got a Minnie Riperton 'Loving You' vibe.
Good stuff here..

This is delicious. The tender vocals and the mellow harmonies are perfect for these sweet and sour lyrics. Doubts vs Hopes masterfully told and arranged.
I second the Minnie Riperton vibe.

Delightful! Love how the Rhodes and the Vibes play with each other - giving an impression of the different kinds of water that are so important in the lyrics. Glad I found this.

Nice, you can feel the sensual experience. Unusual and interesting. Nice collab.

Such a beautifully written lyric and then that jazzy sound. Just a great collab ladies

I love those great complex chords and rangy and very creative melody- works so well with this evocative lyric- a total winner all around!
Has that 'steely dan' 'how did they think that up' kind of feeling, perhaps? (and someone mentioned minnie ripperton's 'lovin you'- yes!)

You carried the water images throughout the downs and ups of this story. Very nice. Easy to get lost in the harmonies and melody. Fine work ladies.

I like the arrangement. This sounds great with keys, bass, "bells" and vox. The chorus lyric/vocal performance is very tender and almost tentative which gives it just the right feeling, I think. I definitely enjoyed listening.
