Martin - I saw these lyrics by Liz, and liked them straight away. I worked on music, and sent Liz a link (the one here) on Soundcloud that was private at the time.

The actual recording there is made up of two separate recordings in essence, as I initially only put down enough for the lyrics, and didn't think of the instrumental sections that I wanted to do - something that I like in a lot of folk songs, because it's almost like an instrumental breath for the listener to take in what they've just heard lyrically.

It's still the messy two recordings slammed together, because I recorded the vocals on one version, and the lead guitar. Somehow I seem to only have the mic'ed up part, and the amplified part is missing - I basically played the part once with it mic'ed up at the instrument and another mic at the amplifier. Where that has gone, I don't know. A shame, as the amp had a little distortion on, that gave it a nice bit of edge!

I hope to clean it all up at some point, hopefully soon!

Lyrics:

V1
the boat at the dock
down at Linger Long Bay
In a storm broke lose
and drifted far away
floated in the current
far out across the sea
until there was nothing...
nothing left to see

C
boats can drift
boats will float
some boats may slip away

boats can move
boats will go
some boats may leave the bay

boats will sink or traverse waters
wide blue deep and gray

V2
the waves pound the dock
where that boat used to be
with a constant rhythm
that's now haunting
a rope hangs from the post
worn weathered and old
grows tired of longing
longing for the boat

C
boats can drift
boats will float
some boats may slip away

boats can move
boats will go
some boats may leave the bay

boats will sink or traverse waters
wide blue deep and gray

B
breaking away in storms
finding new destinies
sailing into the sunsets
fading into memories

C
boats can drift
boats will float
some boats may slip away

boats can move
boats will go
some boats may leave the bay

boats will sink or traverse waters
wide blue deep and gray

Gosh is this good! I love the guitar-superb! And Liz's lyrics are a great match-it flows so perfectly! Super job you two!

it might be rough, but its a wonderful interpretation of Liz's lyric, capturing the style of the sea shanty in such an exciting modern way.

Beautiful collaboration, works beautifully, just thought your vocals could be brought a bit higher then the instrumental but it's just me Smile

I like it! Good job, both of you! Great lyrics, per usual and you've really done a nice job on the vocals here!

This lyric has so many good visuals and deeper thoughts mixed in there too. Good melody and it flows at a swift pace. I like the pause at the last line of the chorus. It's a nice touch which accents the lyrics. Good collab!

I like your flowing melody that fit the lyric very well. That bass line works really well, too. The chorus is catchy and makes me want to sing along. Using the sea as the analogy works very well. And the lyric stays true throughout in a complimentary way. I like the idea of the haunting rhythm
