Another September

Another September

Liner Notes:

Based on a true story.

Lyrics:

The leaves are beginning to have that rattlin' sound

Like the bones of Fall--

I take to the back porch to wait

For shadows to gather around us

-------------------------------------
I feel what's coming

Like the end of Summer, like the end of Love

Still I listen for the creak and clatter

Waiting for the shadows to gather

-----------------------------------------------------------

We came to this town hoping for a fresh-cut start

Got taken down before the wounds could heal

Before we knew our moment passed

And we held on, we held on with bloody knuckles and empty pockets

-------------------------------------

Can you feel what's coming

Like the end of Summer, like the end of Love

Can you even hear the creak and clatter

while the shadows gather around us

----------------------------------------------
While we're waiting beneath the trees' sound

Rattling bones of a hand reaching back through time

Waiting for the shadows to gather

Hold on, hold on for another September

Waiting for the shadows to gather

Hold on, hold on for another September

Poignant lyrics; the imagery of the rattling bones is a good one here. Enjoyed my read a lot!

It's funny, because even though I love summer, I really love autumn. So you've got all this imagery that's supposed to be dark and foreboding and it just makes me excited for fall. It adds a dimension to this song, while maybe unintentional, is really well layered. I love the fall imagery in this.

Seriously solid. OK. You're on with this one, if you want. I'll try to kick my southern hemisphere sensibilities through 180 to cope with it. Unless you have a non-month alternative to September. (!)

Thanks for your kind comments. Love the lyrics, I can relate something raw but honest about it.

Gorgeous poetic lyric! Perfect prelude for fall and the changes it evokes - together a wonderful metaphor.

Wonderfully descriptive, with a fascinating poetic cadence about it. Solid!

Cool story, two people waiting and hoping for a thing that may never appear. I like the auditory cues, I can hear the bones rattling and the creak and clatter of summer dying. I like the image of two people holding on with bloody knuckles to something that probably isn't there.
