Liner Notes:

I had seen the prompt to use a title 'blackmail' earlier today, but was not available at the time to write and record something.

later, in the evening, thought againg about the title, and thought.. well, I hadn't planned on doing another political song right now, but the obvious response (to me) was staring me in the face, so,, I thought, why not?

Wrote this quick, one of those 'it writes itself', and played some live bluesy guitar.

Still (and will be for a while) dealing with some vocal issues, so that little blues croak is about all I got as of now...but I think it gets the message across.

Was fun to do.

Lyrics:

East of Eastern Europe and west of Japan
Near the former republic of Kreplaskistan
They’ve been working for years on this dirty little plan
Blackmail

A New York real estate guy down on his luck
Paid too much for buildings and now he is stuck
Some little payments here and there, a financial nip and tuck
Blackmail

Wintertime in Moscow, the event, Miss Universe
At a hotel room one night, things went from strange to even worse
And the comrades that planned it, in this they’re well versed
Blackmail

Blackmail, the founders are rolling in their graves
Blackmail, in god we trust, but let’s hope Mueller saves

Fast forward to election time and opportunity grows
Sowing discord among democrats, rile up all the Bernie bros
And elevate the clown of a reality TV show
Blackmail

And now the deed is done as if by magic
Right out of Shakespeare, not the comedies, but something tragic
In Russian, there’s a word for it, ‘compromat’
Blackmail

Blackmail, the founders are rolling in their graves
Blackmail, in god we trust, but let’s hope Mueller saves

East of Eden and west of Japan
Near the former republic of Kreplaskistan
They’ve been working for years on this dirty little plan
Blackmail

Ha! I have to say 50/90 this year is really becoming cathartic. I like the take on this one. I also like the talking blues style. Very smart!

I really like this one. Good take and well delivere. Good skirmish

nice one, your (i'm glad to hear!) recovering talking vocal delivery is spot on and sits so well over the tunefulness of the progression. really catchy. the political flavour i love of yours and really good stuff - especially for a skirmish. nice one Smile

Sorry your voice is out, but I think talking through this really works. This skirmish was hand for you, because we all needed to hear our scathing political remarks on the subject. Smile Well done, sir.

This piece is very strong musically and solidly in line with the tradition of protest songs. The forceful rhythm is most compelling.

As you said in your comment to me, we may disagree on the 'accuracy' of some of the points but it wouldn't be much of a protest song if everyone agreed with it. Wink Anyway it's all being investigated by, hopefully, impartial folks so we'll know more later. BTW, for accuracy's sake, the man's name is spelled "Mueller". Other than that, good job.

ha, was typing fast and spelling was never a strong point with me! (now changed the lyric page to reflect it is indeed spelled 'Mueller', which I knew, just didn't catch !

Wow - amazing lyrics! And that's a cool chord progression, too. Nice work!

You could go far with just this amount of voice, Mike; sounds good! I really appreciated your lines rhyming "down on his luck" with "financial nip and tuck" - that's the thing we keep hearing is KGB SOP: tantalize someone to be part of a little thing that needs to stay hidden and you can start getting them to do bigger things that definitely need to stay hidden. It must be a nightmare to find yourself in that spot! I also like the Shakespeare magic/tragic rhyming tie-in.

Kreplaskistan....hahahaha Got a recipe?

Seriously, this is well written and nice guitar work. Like how you went into the minor key....good blackmail key!
