Lost In Conversation

July 22, 2018

there was a table
and some coffee
it was spring
and I was free
I looked up
as you walked in
you sat right down
across from me

we were lost in conversation
world peace, fast cars and bacon
felt my love for you awaken
and I knew
you were the one

at first I was
a bit put off
how dare you
be so bold
but when you spoke
I warmed right up
and our story
would unfold

we were lost in conversation
world peace, fast cars and bacon
felt my love for you awaken
and I knew
you were the one

we agreed that trump was awful
we agreed that war was bad
we agreed to end world hunger
by the end of our brief chat

when you touched
my hand it trembled
when we kissed
my heart did too
we were made
for one another
you for me
and me for you

we were lost in conversation
world peace, fast cars and bacon
felt my love for you awaken
and I knew
you were the one

we were lost in conversation
world peace, fast cars and bacon
felt my love for you awaken
and I knew
you were the one

Beautiful song John, nostalgic, gentle, with some humour but mostly with love and warmth. Enjoyed listening to your gorgeous singing and guitar.

Nostalgic. Nadia hit the nail on the head. So sweet. Love the gentle guitar to go with it.

Beautiful work - and in such a short time. Glad the title inspired you to write this.

Absolutely gorgeous, John. I love how this love story evolves and the sweet connection you conveys. The small details about the topics of conversation make the song so special.

Great work. This is my favourite of the skirmish songs. Really is a sweet tune. Loved the use of bacon. But you capture the tone that I was looking for.

Hi, John - you sound amazing! Man, do I love your voice!
Incredible lyrics, and superb delicate picking. Great song, skirmish or not.

I just gobbled up your lyric! Once my eyes got started with it, I just couldn't stop, the story moves so well. So now to listen...
Bacon/awaken - what a choice rhyme!
I love the hand/heart trembling lines, that's a neat development of implied repetition! Hard to believe this song didn't exist an hour ago. Awsome!

A charming story told very well with a strong melody and your signature finger pickin'. So far you are the only one to rhyme conversation with "bacon". We'll see if that holds up. Wink

I like these observational story songs. Very strong melody on this and that nice easy delivery.

Love the story here and how much they covered in such a short time. Excellent

This is a beautiful tune. And "we were lost in conversation/world peace, fast cars and bacon" is probably the best rhyming couplet of all time. Shakespeare be damned.

I got to agree with aesthetic about that bacon rhyme. Such a lovely love song story. It’s beautiful. Great write.

Very sweet! And yes, the chorus is great. Bacon... I'll take things to bond over for $1000, Alex!

I love this kind of songs, and this specific song... a lot! A warm vocal, a humble guitar that does all it needs to, tender and witty lyrics. The sum of the parts is - as it should be - much more than that: an enjoyable listen with a charming melody. I'm interested to hear more from John Staples! Smile
