Liner Notes:

When we reached 100 songs I challenged Gwyn to write a song based on the title '100 Sleeps' based on a conversation we had about how children measure time. These are my lyrics and Gwyn's music. Because it's a lullaby we might end up taking out two of my verses that went into more detail as it becomes rather long.

Lyrics:

A HUNDRED SLEEPS TIL CHRISTMAS
(c) 2018 Cooper/Jones

Rest your head on the pillow
And close your sleepy eyes
Think of Christmases ago
While I kiss your head goodnight

Dream of Santa and his sleigh
Presents underneath the tree
How daddy hides his sprouts away
That mummy makes him eat

CHORUS
It’s a hundred sleeps til Christmas comes again
A hundred sleeps til this year comes to an end
So much to look forward to
So let’s look toward the new
It’s just a hundred sleeps til Christmas comes again

Snuggle under the blanket
While I tuck you in tight
Think of Christmas crackers
And all the twinkly lights

Dream of walking in the snow
Your blue sled by your side
While daddy has the dog in tow
And mummy tags behind

CHORUS
It’s a hundred sleeps til Christmas comes again
A hundred sleeps til this year comes to an end
So much to look forward to
So let’s look toward the new
It’s just a hundred sleeps til Christmas comes again

It doesn’t seem like it now
But it’s not so long a time
Each day you can count
From your bed at night

CHORUS
It’s a hundred sleeps til Christmas comes again
A hundred sleeps til this year comes to an end
So much to look forward to
So let’s look toward the new
It’s just a hundred sleeps til Christmas comes again

So I do totally love Christmas songs and I do love lullabys. So do I love this song? YES!!!!! And it is not too long for me! The melody is so gorgeous and the vocals are perfect - so gentle and tender. And as a mother, I must say the longer the lullaby and the more repetition of the hook the better! I remember holding my son and singing for 45 min straight of stream of conscious songs and lullaby mash ups sometimes before he fell soundly enough asleep for me to slip out.
