Liner Notes:

This is the prompt of the week for GYAWS. I found it really inspiring to get something off my chest that's been bugging me for a while...I like the chorus chord progression and the static melody which is unusual for me! I might develop this one a little further in future.

Lyrics:

IT’S NOT WHAT YOU THINK

VERSE
It’s tough it’s hard
the balance is off
Work hard play nought
That’s all it’s about

At the end of the day
Not much to say
There’s nothin’ okay
There’s nothin’ okay

CHORUS
It’s not what you think
To all those lookin’ in
It’s not what you think
When you say look at them
They’ve got it all
Must be having a ball
It’s not what you think
To all those looking’ in

VERSE
There aren’t many smiles
Mem’ries of good times
We pay a high price
To keep the dream alive

Always tired and broke
Don’t let anyone know
We don’t let it show
We don’t let it show

CHORUS
It’s not what you think
To all those lookin’ in
It’s not what you think
When you say look at them
They’ve got it all
Must be having a ball
It’s not what you think
To all those looking’ in

CHORUS
It’s not what you think
To all those lookin’ in
It’s not what you think
When you say look at them
They’ve got it all
Must be having a ball
It’s not what you think
To all those looking’ in

To all those looking’ in
To all those looking’ in
It’s not having it all
To all those looking’ in

ive never thought of static melody before, you do a great job with the technique. it creates an aggressive tension that binds the listener to the lyric. when you break out of it, with a melodic nod to oh happy day, we feel a sense of freedom.

The static melody is perfect for the delivery of this melody. The insight and sentiment in the song feel so sad for my hopeful heart that wants to think it is even better than I imagine but this hits me with a dose of truth reality. Well done! Very effective!

very effective, and those chords work well (especially in the chorus) as against that melody...

Static melody works well for this lyric and the moving chords underneath make it work well.

Can totally identify with the work/play life balance being off kilter...!!!

Never heard of static melody before. Very interesting. I love the lyrics, my kilter is out (be back soon )due to circumstances out of my control so i understand its impact.

Great contrast between that complex guitar part and a melody that hangs in one place. And a bit of release for the "all those looking in", where the melody has more freedom.

Yeah, we almost never know what's really going on in others' lives, the hidden stresses, the hollowness that looks so full from the outside.

Good tune.
