Liner Notes:

Alex sez: I spotted this lyric by Liz yesterday and thought, I should do something with it. I quickly slapped together a rough demo, then all day tried to find time and space to do a better demo... and when I finally did, some of the beauty and such was gone from my vocal quality (one gets tired at the end of the day!).

So here it is, warts and all, rough demo. Perhaps it will get a better recording at some point; but I think it works OK as is.

LIZ (kahlo2013) says: thank you Alex for your gorgeous melody on this song - I love your vocal delivery and the guitar is wonderful in this song. I think it works beautifully and conveys the sentiment so well. I am grateful and appreciative for your collaboration!!!

Lyrics:

V1
morning light still glistens bright
on the still blue silver water
but stratus clouds silently sound
that winds of change still wander
and soon the storms may come
we know what is not secure
could drift away...
drift away and come undone

C
we try to pull in all loose ropes
and tie down all we've got
we try to latch down breakables
and tighten all the knots

we try to prepare for the worst
and plan for losses and amends
we try to remember the best
and forget harsh words said
to weather...
weather what lies ahead

V2
whitecaps form from brewing storms
in the dark foreboding sky
we huddle close as if we know
this could be our last goodbye
and when the weather is bad
we'll know we tried our best
though it may end ...
we'll cherish what we had

C
we try to pull in all loose ropes
and tie down all we've got
we try to latch down breakables
and tighten all the knots

we try to prepare for the worst
and plan for losses and amends
we try to remember the best
and forget harsh words said
to weather..
weather what lies ahead

B
someday we'll sail
in the sun again
I trust we'll both be
well in the end

C
we try to pull in all loose ropes
and tie down all we've got
we try to latch down breakables
and tighten all the knots

we try to prepare for the worst
and plan for losses and amends
we try to remember the best
and forget harsh words said
to weather...
weather what lies ahead

what do you get when you set some of alexs best music to some of lizs best music? one of the best songs of 50 90. From the ascending melody of the opening line, I knew this one was going to be a keeper. stuart murdock needs to hear this, as it would remind him of how to write songs,

Listen to that voice... your upper register is amazing... beautiful song and great collab

I like that both of the verses start with concrete imagery to set the scene. And I love the message. Alex, you've given this a great melody and I really do love the falsetto you are using this year.

Lovely imagery and metaphor. I also like the alliteration in this. It's just all so pretty!

This needs a disco backing. Seriously! And that's a good thing!
Using "weather" goes well with the other outside-y words. I instantly saw the weather in those places. Neat tie!
