Liner Notes:

This feels like a happy song... but what do I know. LOL

Lyrics:

Turning Back the Pages

V1
I’m turning back the pages
And turning back my soul
I’m turning back to save… my way…ay

V2
I’m asking you now, brother
Whose side are you on…
The blame never falls far from shame…

Ch
Turn back the page, but don’t play it the same
Or the same thing repeats, once again…
The page that’s been written, can never be undone
So just turn the page and go have fun…

Solo

V3
I’m turning back the pages
To see what I did wrong
So this time I can find another way…ay

V4
I made mistakes so often
It’s true what others say
The worst mistakes are ones that get replayed…

Br
The answer won’t be found
By staring at the ground
We make mistakes most every day…
But all can be forgiven
If you forgive yourself
And try your best to make a change…

Solo

Ch
Turn back the page, but don’t play it the same
Or the same thing repeats, once again…
The page that’s been written, can never be undone
So just turn the page and go have fun…
Turn the page and turn toward the sun…

“The blame never falls far from shame”<——NICE!

That reminds me of an interview with Brene Brown last year where she talked about how shaming others is counterproductive into bringing about positive change.....and this was right after I wrote my song “For Shame”!

I really like the rhythm you have going on here. If I was to perform it, I would probably take out gendered language, replacing “brother” with “neighbor”. I also would really contemplate the word “fun” and see if that was really the direction I wanted to take with the message, because some people’s version of “fun” can damage the lives of other people.

Overall, this is a really nice write and I can totally imagine this as a foot-stomping celebration of life type of song!

Thanks Colleen, your words and advice have me thinking maybe changing turn the page and turn on the fun, to Turn the page and turn toward the sun - this could have the double meaning of either look toward the light or always look forward, never back.

Thats gonna be a cracker. Very nice lyrics - right in the sweet spot for me.
