Go Go, Little Tesla

Liner Notes:

So I was listening to the Beach Boys and musing the other day about how nobody does songs about cars any more.

Perhaps this effort explains why. (Ha! I hope you enjoy me channeling my 14-year-old singing voice).

This was a lot of fun to do and I learned a lot about recording harmonies. (Geez, this was a lot of work).

But...

I'm disappointed in "the mix". Too much going on and, thus far, I'm having trouble making the background vocal parts "clear" enough to hear what's going on. Oh, well--that's part of trying to do a song a day. I'll have to tweak it later.

So I downloaded some articles about Tesla cars, since I'm not much of a "gearhead" myself. That's where I got the lines for the memorable Pre-chorus:

"Got a Complementary Metal Oxide Field
Effect Transistor.
So buckle up, we're gonna take
a ride now, sister!"

Just go ahead and give me the Grammy for that already! Anyway--hope you enjoy this. Still needs a lot of work.

Lyrics:

GO GO, LITTLE TESLA

Words & Music
By
Jerry Pettit

Someday I'll save a bunch of money
Gonna get me Tesla's Model S.
When I'm cruisin' down the street
All the girls will change their tune to "Yes!"
I'll explain AC induction,
Tell them all about the lithium ion.
They'll ask how much it costs,
And I'll have to say, "You'd think I'm lyin'..."

CHORUS:
GO GO, LITTLE TESLA,
Screaming off from the line.
Zip to 60 in 5,
Unlike anything before designed.
Got the power that you need,
And if you want more,
It's like an Energizer Bunny
With a nuclear core.

GUITAR SOLO

The 'lectromagnet switching on and off,
I'll tell you, baby, what a scene.
They spin the rotor for the motor,
And it's called a Switched Reluctance
Machine.
A regenerative brake system
Really keeps the batteries charged.
It converts kinetic energy
So the car's performance is enlarged.

PRECHORUS:
Got a Complementary Metal Oxide Field
Effect Transistor.
So buckle up, we're gonna take
a ride now, sister!

CHORUS:
GO GO, LITTLE TESLA,
Screaming off from the line.
Zip to 60 in 5,
Unlike anything before designed.
Got the power that you need,
And if you want more,
It's like an Energizer Bunny
With a nuclear core.

It's got a touchscreen dash, baby.
Gotta put your fingers right on there.
That's how you keep it in control,
While you're feeling all the
wind in your hair.
Feel those hollow-cast front knuckles,
They are mostly aluminum.
Better hold on real, real tight, girl.
This car is really super-awesome.

PRECHORUS:
Got a Complementary Metal Oxide Field
Effect Transistor.
So buckle up, we're gonna take
a ride now, sister!

CHORUS:
GO GO, LITTLE TESLA,
Screaming off from the line.
Zip to 60 in 5,
Unlike anything before designed.
Got the power that you need,
And if you want more,
It's like an Energizer Bunny
With a nuclear core.

Bravo, you made the tech sheet rhyme. Nice accomplishment. You managed to get that Beach Boy vibe while increasing the tempo, like the Tesla does in 0 to 60. Fun tune and lyrics.

too much fun fun fun Smile i really enjoyed this thx! BIAB is a wonderful thing

youre right, the track is a little overloaded there is a wall of sound, but they are the walls of jericho. but i like the spastic chaos, it remminds me of a fireball 500 road race. i once played a gig in the center of a go cart track, and wish my band had sounded like this, its wild and careless, just like the driver who is singing this swinging song.

Definitely going to have to remix this one day. There is some distorted guitar on there in places. That's a no-no for Beach Boys music, and that's a big part of the problem. Too much conflict with the vocals.

I don't know a lot about cars either, but those Teslas do look good. Lots of fun energy in this. I just got BiaB myself and will be toying around with it this week. The BiaB tracks are always impressive.

Really good Beach Boys recreation ... this one rocks ... love the guitar solo. As far as car songs go, check out NRBQ's "Little Floater."

I loved this so much, Jerry. It reminds me of a really awesome commercial, the beach boys, and a simpler time. It made my SCREAM with joy when you sang "Go Go Little Tesla"! I was having so much fun listening to this song!

You know why nobody ever makes songs about cars anymore right? Because cars now suck. No modern car is ever going to be a classic. No one is gonna be living in 2080 and be like "Man, I'd love to get me a classic 2020 chevy pickup" because cars today are lame.

Your song however is not lame! It was magical! Truly magical! I loved it! Biggrin the lyrics are clever, the song is incredible, and you're the freaking man Jerry!

Every band needs a song about cars. Love the chord progressions here. That guitar solo one minute in is glorious.

This is fun and catchy! I especially like the pre-chorus and chorus. Contagious energy! I knew nothing about a tesla before listening! Now I know lots! lol

Dang Jerry, this is a mighty fine retro, modern song about the car of the future (or so I've been told!) Great instrumentation has a really sweet groove! Nicely done vocals and I really love how you sing the chorus! And I really love how yuou worked all the technical details in the lyrics! Great song!

Ha! I love the classic "car song" style of the music. Tesla should be the next cool thing. "Energizer Bunny with a nuclear core" is a great line!

Oh, this is wonderful. You can never go wrong with a Beach Boys pastiche. You have captured well the "young man bragging sincerely about his transportation device to a girl"-vibe of the classic BB songs like 409, Little Deuce Coupe and Little Honda. Among others.

And I'm not bragging so don't put me down but you should check my Beach Boys harmonies on Philosopher Bird so that we can compare notes, heh. ( The title in blue is a link to the song page. )
