Lyrics:

V1
the boat at the dock
down at Linger Long Bay
In a storm broke lose
and drifted far away
floated in the current
far out across the sea
until there was nothing...
nothing left to see

C
boats can drift
boats will float
some boats may slip away

boats can move
boats will go
some boats may leave the bay

boats will sink or traverse waters
wide blue deep and gray

V2
the waves pound the dock
where that boat used to be
with a constant rhythm
that's now haunting
a rope hangs from the post
worn weathered and old
grows tired of longing
longing for the boat

C
boats can drift
boats will float
some boats may slip away

boats can move
boats will go
some boats may leave the bay

boats will sink or traverse waters
wide blue deep and gray

B
breaking away in storms
finding new destinies
sailing into the sunsets
fading into memories

C
boats can drift
boats will float
some boats may slip away

boats can move
boats will go
some boats may leave the bay

boats will sink or traverse waters
wide blue deep and gray

Really nice imagery on this one. There is a really nice flow to this one and that chorus is golden!

I guess you never know how long a boat will be gone when it leaves the dock.

I like the gentleness of the descriptions of the boats and what they do, which of course lend themselves to many images.

I have to say that both me and Louise think these lyrics are beautiful. I agree with @wacha - that chorus is indeed golden!

This verse is really good. Never thought of a rope longing for a boat to tie down. Excellent imagery.

I love nautical metaphor songs. Boats often represent our journey through life, though this song almost seems like a journey after life. Great imagery.
