Demo:

Liner Notes:

This song popped up in infancy 2 days ago and i finished today. Its got my trusty guitar at the back. But using my tenor uke to play some minor pentatonics over the top and a bit of 3 harmonising on the voice. Not 100% there but ok for now

Lyrics:

Life autopsy

Ive pulled it apart in every way
Every detail explored
Where i went right, where i went wrong
Nothing how small ignored

Overthought decisions, muddled facts
Tried to see where it went wrong
Analysed where and why i was weak
And what and how made me strong

It was all so more painful
than surgery or even a biopsy
Because mine was carried out in front of you
A thorough life autopsy

I saw it all in micro detail
It looked all different after the fact
I analysed what had happened
In every scene and Act

I saw where each fork occurred
And then which direction i took
It was easy to see why i did these things
My life was an open book

But you know

It was all so more painful
than surgery or even a biopsy
Because mine was carried out in front of you
A thorough life autopsy

B Life it ain’t easy but you do the best you can
Just trying to get on by whatever is the plan

Ive pulled it apart in every way
Every detail explored
Where i went right, where i went wrong
Nothing was ignored

It all looks different in hindsight
What was blurred is often now clear
But at the time i did the best i could
With the path i chose to steer

ins

Lucky I’m pretty self contained
Im happy with where i am
i don’t let reflections get me down
Just stick with the ol program

It had been

......all so more painful
than surgery or even a biopsy
Because mine was carried out in front of you
A thorough life autopsy

The lyrics appear to have an old version of the song. The change from "in detail" to "in front of you" (as sang) definitely increases the impact of the song for me. Smile

Well spotted. What happens sometimes is i write the lyrics, then the music. When i do the demo i sing it through and as i am singing i improvise on the fly because something doesnt fit or i think of a better line. Thx i will go back and update my lyrics.

Another very pleasing song, John. Your guitar and uke play along nicely, and your vocals and harmonizing are wonderful.

Beautiful melody for this wonderfully introspective song - I love the medical metaphors! Nicely played countermelody on the ukulele.

The lyric brings to mind a quote I often repeat, "The mind is a very bad neighborhood." We can be our own worst enemy. This is lyric I can identify with. I like the idea of doing the best you could. Nice uke over the top.

I love the message of this song, It's so easy to get lost in our own thoughts and second guess decisions we've made. It a lot harder to accept things and move on. You do a nice job of tackling a serious subject and making it feel a bit lighter.

I like that metaphor and the song has a nice easy flow. The harmonized uke part is nice!

I like this idea! And yeah for ukulele picking. I like the metaphor of autopsy for life choice examination. I also like the vocal harmony that you put in here.
