Third song...still sad! (Not me...just the songs!)

This one is the slowest tempo I've ever done. Not sure I'm happy with the key I chose...feels like I could sing a little stronger in a higher key...but hey...50/90! Smile

you gave me everything I ever needed
enchanted my world
I knew that no one else could ever understand
as we walked the sand
hand in hand
my love for you girl

and now my eyes
my eyes are wide open
and my heart
my heart hurts too much to ignore

you were the only thing I ever wanted
but you shattered my world
now I know that I can never understand
what you planned
how you handled
my love for you girl

and now my eyes
my eyes are wide open
and my heart
my heart hurts like never before

sometimes I find myself wishing
that you would have stayed
but I guess that our time here
was certain to end anyway

and now my eyes
my eyes are wide open
and my heart
my heart hurts too much to ignore
I'm not surprised
that our life is now over
but I will love you
for evermore

and now my eyes
my eyes are wide open
and my heart
my heart hurts like never before
I'm not surprised
that our life is now over
but I will love you
yes I'll love you
for evermore

You can always change the key later, but I think you sound pretty good. Sounds like you might just bump it up a half to a whole step if you change it. Nice tempo though, Really gives this that slow, sad, intensity that works so well in a ballad. That lead guitar is absolutely weeping!

You've got a great sound out of this. I tend to record my songs "too slow", and my personal opinion is that you might have done that here also. Great song--maybe try it up a few bpm!

Nice moody song. It has a lot of soul influences which work and mix well with your country vocals. Nothing wrong with the tempo, but very slow tempo just means the vocal interpretation gets more focus. Those quicker repeated rhythms ( taa-ta-taa ) in the first verse are really cool. Man, you are really fast doing these demos.

Dang, I sampled the first couple and then this one -- you are going for full, solid productions and that is quite alright with me. You really know how to to produce something, but not lose the original meaning of it all -- that is a gift. Your singing "key" register is just fine to me here. In any case, 3 songs already and all of them top notch.

careful that sad rut can be hard to get out of Smile i love it in there! I like it as it is but sure key and speed will change dynamics but probably you lose as much as you gain. somehow there is still hope in here - 3 goodies in a row!

Beautiful song. The key is fine, complements your voice perfectly. The lead fills are awesome. More, please

Since you give equal time to 'My Heart', I would have titled it "MY EYES MY HEART".

Tempo fits the song just fine, I wouldn't change anything here. The song breathes quite well, and allows the sadness to procure the listener in exactly the right way. More good stuff, John.

This has a great vibe! The tempo is perfect for this kind of melancholy rock ballad, as well as the chord progression. Love the dreamy guitar and background vocals. I feel like I should be knocking back shots just before closing time. Great job! Keep em coming. Biggrin

Outstanding! Perfect combo of lyrics and melody.

Sometimes a slower tempo can be just what a song needs. This really highlights your control of your vocals! Nice write, John!

Nice!! This is what thickly sweet gloom feels like. Beautifully done and heartfelt, wonderful vocals and love how you perfectly explain the real that...hey, my eyes are now wide open...doesn't mean it hurts any less and while you still love this ficticious woman... you've learned... You are quite the actor Mr. John Staples! Amazing job...as always!! Excellent overall performance!!

Oh my. I'd love to cover this song. It is incredibly beautiful. I think it's a perfect tempo. You can nestle in those pockets and when it comes time for that big rise near the end, just go for it. It was really there. The cry of a heart, a heart crier. It was there. I just love listening to all your work. It's so down home heart break but with vocals and lyrics that just take you there without any trouble.

Love the production on this, I was so into it, I was rocking in my seat singing along, great emotional singing, it carried me away.

The tempo sounds about right for this, to my ears. But I agree about the choice of key - it sounds like you're really pushing the bottom of your range to get at the melody. If you nudge this a tone or two higher, you'll be able to belt it out more easily. It'd be worth doing, though - this has a great vibe to it and I really enjoyed the guitar work!
