Across Lines, Beyond Borders

VERSE
It has to be
them and us
you and me
neighbors friends
families
lovers strangers
communities
close to home
overseas
diverse worldwide
humanity....

BRIDGE
there might be lines
we may never walk
and some borders
we may never cross
but there must be
yes there must be

CHORUS
love across the lines
love beyond borders
love...
we must show love

hope across the lines
hope beyond borders
hope....
we must give hope

joy across the lines
joy beyond borders
joy...
we must share joy

peace across the lines
peace beyond borders
peace...
we must make peace

BRIDGE
there might be lines
we may never walk
and some borders
we may never cross
but there must be
yes there must be

VERSE
humanity
diverse worldwide
overseas
close to home
communities
lovers strangers
families
neighbors friends
you and me
them and us
It has to be

I sat down many a-nights trying to remember when I was first aware of this sentiment. I believe I was 7 yrs old. I've experienced prejudice...not just from other people groups, but my own. I remember watching 10-part series with my brother on PBS called Eyes On the Prize. With all that exposure, yet, I find it more and more distressing how politicized the world is now. I see efforts for inclusiveness, but I do honestly wonder how much of that is real...and not something else. What that ELSE is, remains shrouded from me for now. I love your positive message. You always seem to write from that well of inspiration. it's welcomed and appreciated.

What a great way to start the ball rolling, Liz! I absolutely love the bridge, but the message throughout just SCREAMS to be heard. Good to see you again.
Cheers,
John

Ooh.....I see what you did there with the reverse poem of your verses! Really nice write......it's nice to see so many other songwriters feeling similar feels as me! I hope this finds the right collaborator to bring this to life with vocals and music.

I do agree we the Craig that often groups become inclusive and compassionate more for show/votes/money and not because of what they really believe. That's sad and hard to tell the difference sometimes, but you're so right, we need to embrace our neighbors and even our enemies. Love really is the key and it start with the individual. Good, inspiring song.

You've done a very clever thing by leaving the end of the sentence for the chorus - the payoff is incredible, and the full force of the underlying message hits immediately.

The short, simple lines and the way you never stray far from the key theme leads me to see this song being sung by assembled groups - protesters, people sat at borders at an overnight vigil... a genuine anthem. Well done.

Really nice job on this one, I love the sentiment. The lyrics flow very nicely and I love the bridge.
