The Frightening thing

The Frightening thing

Kate Y's picture

Liner Notes:

Song inspired by Alzheimer's and Dementia what some people I have seen them suffer from.

Lyrics:

My home I should be safe
I feel like I'm living in a horror show
I need to get out of the darkness
I don't wanna drowned in the river

I wanna be free to live
Free to breath
Free to see the light of day
Free to spread my wings and fly

The frightening thing about it was losin my mind
Not knowing where I am
Or where I am at
Plunged into the world of darkness

I wanna be free to live
Free to breath
Free to see the light of day
Free to spread my wings and fly

The frightening thing is being trapped
Losing my mind
Being in the darkness

I wanna be free to live
Free to breath
Free to see the light of day
Free to spread my wings and fly away

I wanna be free to live
Free to breath
Free to see the light of day

I can relate to the words of your song. Both my mother in-law and father in-law suffer from dementia. She has passed on, but taking care of him has been a great challenge for the last four years. I can see in his eyes the longing to be free from the walls of memory care; to be able to move about freely, to drive, to just be. Very sad, but very real lyrics you've shared.

The thing I like about this is that the lyrics could be so universal, and yet so specifically inspired by something like Alzheimer's. It makes it so everyone can relate.

Keep it up!

It's one of the most powerful things, the yearning for freedom. I think it's a positive thing for the song to meditate on in the midst of all the pain. It's also quite humanising - showing self-awareness and a desire we all share in the hearts and minds of the sufferers.
