Liner Notes:

izaak: so when I saw these lyrics by @Stephen Wordsmith as *21392 back in July, I figured it was my duty render a clarinet and mandolin accompaniment. Bits of this have been knocking around my head all summer, but the pressure of having only 12 days left finally helped me to get it done.

Lyrics:

Claire-Annette
Amanda-Lynne
Play music for
The band I'm in
Amanda-Lynne
Plays the clarinet
The Mandolin?
That's Claire-Annette

CHORUS
Amanda-Lynne
And Claire-Annette
Play on
Through that orchestral set
Amanda-Lynne
And Claire-Annette
Play on

Claire-Annette
In hand her plectrum
Plucks out a
Symphonic Spectrum
With gentle airs
Across the reed
Amanda-Lynne
Is fine indeed

CHORUS

BRIDGE
The curtain's up
The lights are down
Expectant silence all around
They wait for magic to begin
For Claire-Annette
And Amanda-Lynne

Claire-Annette
Amanda-Lynne
Make harmony
From tensi-on
Amanda-Lynne
Will purse her lips
And Claire-Annette?
A perfect fifth

CHORUS

I really like that chorus melody. The tricky word play doesn't seem to be easy to handle vocally, but here it is handled with flair. I really like the lyric, the opposites for who plays what kind of relates to the curtains up and lights down. Dang, the more I listen, the more I like that melody throughout.

Given how ambitious you were in your approach, it's all come together beautifully. I like the way you extended the chorus; they've always been a weak point of mine. Other nice notes: the stretched-out 'tension', the mandolin layering for the final verse, the overall effect reminiscent of 'Equestrienne' by Natalie Merchant (and Rachael Field, originally)... beautiful.

Beautiful mando & clarinet playing! I like the leaps in the chorus.

I like it when a tricky challenge comes together as this one did. Beautiful work, izaak!

Love this - great word play in the lyric and lovely melody and marriage of the clarinet and mandolin!
