Liner Notes:

Five days ago, a friend of mine died unexpectedly, leaving behind her husband and four school age kids. It's been a very emotional week. I've been writing lyrics and scrapping them, unable to find words in my grief. I've lost a brother-in-law, aunt, uncle and three friends since March and each grief is different, but pushes me to face my mortality.

On Saturday, I found a beautiful prayer that felt like my friend Corey giving me words to put to music: her way of expressing to me how to pull through this pain. I was sitting at a bat mitzvah and at the end of the service, we read these words. (I did write an extra stanza, marked in the lyrics.)

After attending Corey's funeral today, I pulled out my guitar and this is what came out.

Lyrics:

When I die give what's left of me away
to children and old men that wait to die.
And if you need to cry, cry for your brother
walking the street beside you.
And when you need me,
put your arms around anyone and give them
what you need to give me.

I want to leave you something
Something better than words or sounds
Look for me in the people I've known or loved
and if you cannot give me away,
at least let me live in your eyes and not in your mind.

When I die give what's left of me away
****to strangers and refugees left without a home.****
And if you need to cry, cry for your ****sister
sitting alone in silence****
And when you need me,
put your arms around anyone and give them
what you need to give me.

You can love me best by letting hands touch hands
and by letting go of children that need to be free.
Love doesn't die, people do.
So when all that's left of me is love, give me away.

Please keep your comments respectful, honest, and constructive. Please focus on the song and not the demo.

Absolutely beautiful eulogy for an amazing friend. I love how you brought these words to life so beautifully. I appreciate and am moved by your liner notes as well. So much loss - so sad. Hugs to you and eternal peace to those who have moved beyond this world. Sympathy and condolences to their families and friends.
