Liner Notes:

I'm going to "Hunchback of Notre Dame" musical tonight. I was supposed to work, but the groom got caught with the baby sitter, so the wedding's off.
My seat is pretty far from the stage.

Lyrics:

Rich bachelor thinks rules are for other people
Screws the baby sitter and gets caught
Bridezilla's in a rage, understandably distraught
I'm still getting paid, but the wedding's off

So tonight instead of watching them
Trade rings underneath a lace gazebo
I'll be hanging out with Quasimodo and Esmeralda
From behind a thousand other people

The far end of the cheap seats at the back of the balcony
Getting paid to watch someone else's dark romantic tragedy
Sitting with an empty glass, that is where you'll find me
The far end of the cheap seats at the back of the balcony

I'm not sure what to expect
Menken music, Schwartz lyrics
I hope I enjoy it
I hope I can hear what the actors say
I hope I can see the stage
My seat is so very far away

Is this a true story? Whether or not it is it makes a very entertaining song. Like the way you describe being at the back of the theatre, there is an implied contrast with being in the front row as a spectator for the wedding that didn't happen.
