Reason Fourteen - Special Occasion

Tags:

Demo:

Liner Notes:

So this is my snare-drum with brushes debut! I just replaced the heads on an old junk snare drum because my son is taking band percussion at school this year, and needs something to practice on. Turns out the snares were garbage, so I had to take them off, but I bought some brushes, and I'm enjoying learning how to stir the beans. I don't keep that great of time on this track, but it was fun and different. Anything different is good! There'll be a few more brush-work tunes before the 50/90 is over. Tips for recording it from you sound engineer types???

Oh, and whistling! Yea!

Lyrics:

You’re a special occasion, honey
A real one of a kind
You couldn’t be normal if you tried
You’re something elite there, darlin’
Assume your problems are unique
Your problems aren’t like theirs or mine
Nobody knows what you’re going through
Nobody knows how you feel
It’s oh so very lonely at the top
The sunshine in the center
You’re holding everything together
With the gravity of those magical thoughts

If you want it it ought to come right up to you
A certain silver plater of success
Entitled to the best
Since you’re better than the rest
The fourteenth reason that people give up I guess

This isn’t supposed to turn out like this
This isn’t supposed to happen to you
All in favor just say, “I”
You’re a special occasion, honey
A real one of a kind
You couldn’t be normal if you tried
You couldn’t be normal if you tried
You couldn’t be normal if you tried

I love using brushes and my son is in percussion in the band, so understand! What a great genre, you sound really good and I WISH I could whistle!! What a nice production with the horn, I really like this and my fav line is:

You’re holding everything together
With the gravity of those magical thoughts

Very nice!!! I really enjoyed this!!

Very nice whistling. Ooh that ending! I liked the trombone but would have liked more fills throughout the song if it wasn't too overwhelming. Brushes were nice, vocals were clear, understandable. So you're writing about why people give up? But my problems really ARE unique Smile

This was captivating. The lyrics had a big appeal for me. I liked the jazzy movements within your chord structure and the light speak-sing style vocals. Brush sticks are definitely soothing on the ears. Good job

An instant standard. Love the melody, lyric, and trombone solo. Nice elevation on that last note, too!

Brushes sound good to me! A timely reminder that "SNARE" is still staring at me from my list of unused instruments.
Really laid back, charming song - the whistling solo is great, and trombone is always welcome!

So charming! And your brushwork is fine. Nice tone on that trombone as well. I like the whistling and the background vocals too. Pretty much I like everything about this!
