(Cleaned up a bit audio added 11Aug2017, still just a demo Smile )

This one came to me this morning and wrote itself in 5mins, short simple and would do well with sectional embellishments, etc.

I looked up the term black snake moan and see the heritage of the Title (those are wretched old songs... wow...). Fortunately for me, has nothing to do with those tracks, or the movie (which I do like...), but came to me as literally a black snake, and moaning... and does stem from the prior song today about money in the church... -- I'm feeling much better now Smile Hahhh, anyway... so, here it is.

As you can see, the "today" stuff is very different from the old old dug out old notes file of "lost krappe" and DO REALLY APPRECIATE the feedback that is worth reconsidering. Times have changed... I guess. Everyone used to hate me, Christians, Atheists... got it from both sides Smile Life's good!

-- Oh, and this was one take and then sort of chopped up and re-arranged... you'll hear the chops and pasted in moved sections...? I do plan on re-recording it. And, if not so tired I thought to actually break out a Slide... OMG! Maybe... we'll see. I'm not sure it's that great a piece to put that much effort into it. But, Em may be nice for slide work... it's been a while and will have to "lift" the strings on some old guitar...

PS: The crickets were kinda loud outside my window... but, I kinda like them. Like the lawn mower the other day as a "b-note", or sometimes a freight is going by.... not sure what Note that horn is... will check next time... it's about a quarter to a half mile away too Smile ... but is between two crossing so really hammers the horn, like 10am, 2pm, 3am... but I don't even hear it anymore.

That pasted in section at the end really had a lot of bottom drop out,... sorry. However, Audacity crashed like 3 times in the hour prior on my new Linux system... --will have to see if has an update, -- no reason to crash. I find stuff panned 100% and vol pegged and etc. So, as I said, I'll redo it next chance I get.

Lyrics:

Em6 Em
Hard and cold
D Am sus
Life's long road
F v^ Am v^ Em sus
(No) Can't pay the toll 3x

Em6 Em
Hard and cold
D Am sus / /
Life's long road
F v^ Am v^ Em sus
Rife with black snake moan 2x

Em6 Em
Hard and cold
D Am sus / /
Life's long road
F v^ Am v^ Em sus
Can't (oh) pay the toll 2x

Em6 Em
Reapers sling blade

Made for us / /

Some get on the bus
Others take the cane
All pay with pain

Em6 Em
(No) Can't pay the toll
F v ^ Am v ^ Em sus
Rife with black snake moan 3x

Has a sort of cool British Isles folk vibe, even though the title made me think of Robert Johnson at the crossroads. Powerful acoustic groove, evocative vocal. Good one!

This one as it progressed I really felt soul coming through the guitar and vocals. Not saying much to dissect--just listened and enjoyed--I've got to do that sometimes--experience it as a whole and not fragmented.

Just getting back now to reading some comments. Thanks guys!

It's a phrase (title) that was part of a movie (title), that I liked and was playing with it. I try to research anything as well as I can, not purely form my "head" in spontaneity. I feel that, some of the "old" meaning no longer exists and if did as stated may be a "modern" comment--not sticking. So, disregarding some of the fringe stuff, decided to use it.

-- I "like" it Smile

Enjoying my listen to this--- the tightness of guitar rhythm matching the vocal line always works well in my ear. It's an interesting phrase isn't it, 'black snake moan' you have this sight and sound to the imagery--- and then your lyric puts this on the long, hard, cold, road--- for me it comes across like a blues... cool music!
