The future is ours

Liner Notes:

This one started as just a chord progression which I *think* is mixolydian. I dunno. The music came first, then I fitted the first verse line to the melody and then it kinda wanted to turn into an optimistic rock anthem. Inspired by my cheesy favourite anthem You’re the voice by John Farnham. Chords included because I’m too lazy to edit them out. My first song to include a pre-chorus, cus what even is a pre-chorus.

Lyrics:

remove chords
Earth is choking, tyrants rise
Children starving, drown in lies
It’s too easy to avert your eyes
Instead gotta reach for the sky

Sing a song of your sorrow
Howl out your fears
Shout sadness away
Write the song of tomorrow
Wash off your tears
Sing out loud for today

Ain’t no time to sit idle
Ain’t no time to be weak
Ain’t no time to just wait around
Be the answer you seek

Refuse to bow down
Stand proud in the sun
Strive until the work is done
The moment is now
The time has come
For us to rise as one
The future is ours, ours to command
The fate of the world in our hands

Sing a song for the silent
Raise up your voice
It’s time to be heard
Sing a song against violence
Let’s make some noise
Let them hear every word

Ain’t no time to despair
Ain’t no time to complain
Ain’t no time for laissez-faire
Ain’t no gain without pain

Refuse to bow down
Stand proud in the sun
Strive until the work is done
The moment is now
The time has come
For us to rise as one
The future is ours
Ours to command
The fate of the world in our hands

[solo verse]

Time to show that we care
Time to roll up our sleeves
Time to speak up for what’s fair
Be the change we seek

Refuse to bow down
Stand proud in the sun
Strive until the work is done
The moment is now
The time has come
For us to rise as one
The future is ours
Ours to command
The future is ours
Ours to command
The fate of the world in our hands

Wow! This is great. Nice lyrics. It is beautifully sung and great job with all the instrumentation. I heartily agree with your message!

can definitely hear the Farnsie influence in the chorus! Think this song would sound awesome fully produced with a larger complement of instrument. Very idealistic and optimistic chorus. Can imagine singing along to it after a few drinks Wink

I really like the joyous, uplifting piano, and yes, the vocals and lyrics are quite anthemic -- you've really succeeded on that score. The vocal melody is really catchy -- I'll be humming this for quite a while, and downloading to play whenever I'm feeling sad. Very nice!

Smile --- cool stuff here. I really like the surf guitar (to my ears) solo bit and I think the overall structure works well. I wonder what would happen at a slightly faster tempo, mostly because the lyric seems like it could inspire a faster pulse.
