Liner Notes:

here is my attempt to sing a pop song! Wonderful wonderful lyrics written by Liz. Always enjoy her stuff. I sort of based the feel of this one on Roxette's It Must have been love..just wish I could sing like her. sigh....

"...and I just wish I could sing like Joanne..." - Liz

"...and play the guitar like her too...that would be lovely, but since I cannot I am truly grateful and deeply appreciative of Joanne's generosity and willingness to bring some of my lyrics to life. She is a wonderful person and lovely to work with - thanks Joanne!" - Liz

Lyrics:

Lyrics by Liz Petty
V1
one thing led to another
from an unassuming start
a blazing fire erupted
from a solitary spark

it was not supposed to happen
didn't need to fall apart
a raging fire dies down
heavy storms put it out

C
it could have been
the start of something new
that grew stronger and better

it could have been
the start of me and you
that lasted beyond forever

it could have been...
yes I think it could have..

V2
but one thing led to another
that dissolved what had grown
large holes formed in fabric
from tears in what was sewn

it was not supposed to happen
no one could have known
but some things easily unravel
when threads of truth are pulled

C
it could have been
the start of something new
that grew stronger and better

it could have been
the start of me and you
that lasted beyond forever

it could have been...
yes I think it could have

B
it could be easy to walk away
it could be easy to forget
it could be easy to love again
but for me it's not easy yet

C
it could have been
the start of something new
that grew stronger and better

it could have been
the start of me and you
that lasted beyond forever

it could have been...
yes I think it could have

Your 50/90 partnership has worked out great so far; another gorgeous, emotional song, perfectly melding lyric and performance, and the chorus in particular is almost ABBA-esque in his melodic glory. A sweeping epic of love and loss, delivered with just the right blend of grandeur and intimacy.
