Song commissioned for a Christmas compilation. Rough one-take version.

Christmas is a complicated holiday for me with conflicting emotions. It took a very long time for this one to surface without cynicism or dwelling on loss (4 months, I believe). It was hard to reconnect with hope, but the evergreen led me back.

Lyrics:

Go to sleep
And dream
Of the fire on the grate
Of the twist and turn of fate

On the sill
Outside
Is a gathering of snow
As the winds of winter blow

When the sun begins to set
Don't forget

There's a flame in your heart
Just as warm as it was
At the start
And the glow of that scene
Still remains
In the arms of an evergreen

As a child
You know
That the world goes spinning round
And your feet are on the ground

But it fades
With age
And you start to lose the thread
In the labyrinth in your head

When the light begins to grey
Don't dismay

There's a flame in your heart
Just as warm as it was
At the start
And the glow of that scene
Still remains
In the arms of an evergreen

Life and breath
Are ebb and flow
People come
And people go
Memory holds the magic of
The moments that we love

There's a flame in your heart
Just as warm as it was
At the start
And the glow of that scene
Still remains
Still remains

There's a flame in your heart
Just as warm as it was
At the start
There's a flame in your heart
Just as warm
Just as warm

And the glow of that scene
Yes, the glow
Oh, the glow of that scene
Still remains
In the arms of an evergreen
In the arms of an evergreen
In the arms of an evergreen

Nailed it. Well, nailed the real emotion. Not the happy, happy ignore the reality flavor of some. But for me, nailed it.

That was truly wonderful. What a gift that will be to the person who commissioned it... Beautiful sentiment and a lovely melody. I really liked how you tied in the melody nod at the end as well. Smile
