Cheryl wrote: Great skirmish @JohnStaples!

This needs a little more work than an hour will give me, but definitely a good warm-up exercise for 50/90!

Folk-Pop usually isn't my style but it's what came to me first. Hmm.

Klaus scribbled: First of all thank you Cheryl for these wonderful and nice and cool lyrics.

Second of all I'm trying desperately to catch up this week ( #34 ), so I'm posting one demo each day no matter what. This is song number two. Plenty more where this came from. Smile

Went for a bossa nova kind of music. It's summery music, right? But it wouldn't be enough. I had to have some surprises in there too. Hopes youse likes. Smile

* [Cheryl 8/23] Klaus, you did an awesome job with this! Absolutely perfect style!! The genres you can do are infinite and it's always a pleasure! Thanks! Smile

Lyrics:

Summer Solstice
© 2016 Cheryl A. Hodgins

It's that time of year
Longer days and camp fires
Beaches and ocean waves
Lonely hearts and desires

It's that time of year
Fruit drinks with umbrellas
Cotton and linen
Midnight Cinderellas

Summer solstice
I've been waiting for you
I've been looking for someone
To make me feel like you do

Summer solstice
I've been waiting for you
Sand between my toes
And sweat
Dripping down my spine

It's that time of year
Traveling place to place
Riding bikes and sailboats
A little love, a sultry face

It's that time of year
Send her out wherever she is
Over sea and mountains
I'll give her all I've got to give

Summer solstice
I've been waiting for you
I've been looking for someone
To make me feel like you do

Summer solstice
I've been waiting for you
Sand between my toes
And sweat
Dripping down my spine

These are some dyn-o-mite lyrics Cheryl! I love, Love, LOVE how each verse has three lines to describe summer (and described quite well I might add!) But then the final line is a little more, er, "grounded"! "Lonely hearts and desires", "Midnight Cinderellas" and "A little love, a sultry face" make me really sit up and listen/read closer to find everything ain't sand and butterflies in this story! Love how the chorus compares the good feelings of summer with the desire for someone to bring good feelings too! Really great write (as usual!!!!)

Beautiful imagery Cheryl! You nailed the Summer feel there, and the restless passion for that season.

These lyrics have a "fresh, crisp and coastal" sense to them. Your imagery is fantastic! Some of my favorite sensory aspects of summer!

Oh, very nice imagery and wonderful details. They put me right there in the scenario. Smile

Cool stuff. Or should I say hot. The chorus is pretty hot, since "sweat" gets emphasized, being there all alone in that one line. "Dripping down my spine" is the sensual pay-off.

This seems like early summer song. Most of the details are more like memories and she wants to make new ones, but she hasn't started yet. Smile

You did this in a skirmish??? Jeez ... imagine if you had plenty of time Wink nah - pressure makes diamonds and it will be interesting to listen to, if it ever gets demo'd.

Best phrase = Midnight Cinderellas - bloody impressive and unique as Hell. 2 thumbs up.

This has an upbeat, positive outlook and some good details... Sand between my toes and lonely hearts and desires. It's a nice combination of the season and romance. Cool when a skirmish can bring you to new places!

Quality imagery that really captures the whole vibe of the season. Made me think of my aunt's cabin. Dig the repetition of "It's that time of year." Nice work!

That's the sort of summer we need right now. So many great descriptions to engage the senses!

Stonehenge is less than an hour and a half from me in the car; so far I've resisted the temptation to visit on a solstice. The druids famously turned up on the wrong day a couple of years ago... Smile

Midnight Cinderellas really caught my attention. A lovely ode to summer and the love it (might) bring.

So nice to hear the demo! The softness of your vocals with the pretty music and those lyrics-a masterpiece!

What a cool style of music for this lyric....with all the great summer details which put us right in the thick of the season, the music complements it with a fresh, friendly feel. And ohh...what a musical surprise there around the 3 minute mark! I get the feel of "come on, let's play"! So enjoyable!

Oh such a lovely bossa nova surf like feel that capture the season so well. The words convey that longing for for the magic of summer and the music is absolutely spectacular to deliver that laid back happy feel. Great collab! I love your vocals on this Klaus! I love how hooky it is at the end!

This is dripping with Summery goodness! Exceptional lyrics that carry lots of symbolism and imagery. I love the Bossa feel that Klaus has added, and his vocal here is never better!

Really gorgeous ... perfect mix of lyrics and music. Like the Beach Boys on holiday in Rio. Reminds me of "Summer Samba." Chorus is so lovely ... really packs emotional depth. Change at the end really powerful and 60s-like. Nice imagery in the lyrics - I can picture "Riding bikes and sailboats/A little love, a sultry face" in my mind's eye.
