"""""""""Merry Christmas Calum.""""""""
And Merry Christmas to all!!
May the road rise up to meet you and the wind be ever at your back
i think you misinterpreted my comments.
there's not much i can do to be clearer. i said i was sure it was better than the usual xmas drek, i pointed out a spelling mistake, and all i get are sarcastic remarks?
it's enough to make me open a new bag of humbugs.
PS - i do wonder why the fact this is an SA Forums compilation is so conspicuously absent from the first post though.
PPS - by the way just so we're totally clear on this, i am not trying to cause trouble, i am GENUINELY bemused by the obvious omission of the fact this is an SAForums production, and i haven't got anything against any members of that forum (except the tendency of some of their number to jealously do all their song feedback on that site instead of the sites they are nominally members of), and i certainly hope they all have a happy christmas.
"there's not much i can do to be clearer."
Ha, ha -- you are 100% right and 100% clear. By the way they are cranking up a Valentines album -- if you ask nicely they may let you put one of your tunes on it.
very funny.
Look, i think the SAForums are a great idea, and i think most, if not all, of the members there are perfectly fine people, good songwriters and musicians etc, but i didn't enjoy the social interaction i had there, and i think that the net effect of the SAForums as it affects the wider world (ie: the communities at FAWM, 5090 and NASOALMO) dilutes the effectiveness of the greater songwriting community that we're all part of.
I have nothing against the forums, the members, their music, anything, and i am sick of reiterating it, and i know you lot are sick of hearing it. The only reason i am going over this all over again is that i do not want their whole community thinking i hate them or anything, and i do not want to be censored.
I am genuinely interested in why this collection wasn't touted as a successful SAForums production to be honest, it's quite obvious that this detail was left out, and i am just naturally inquisitive. But it REALLY annoys me that every time i say anything in any connection with SAForums at all somebody makes some smartalec reply, as though i am trolling. I mean i haven't had the answer to the question yet. Gerry, i wasn't aware of any animosity between us but your reply ignores my question and makes me think you're just trying to piss me off, though if i'm honest it's that level of immaturity that prompted me to leave SAForums in the first place. I don't wish to offend you, but you know i have to be honest. I don't like flippant remarks, i don't like people who laugh at others behind their hands, and i don't like people making wrong assumptions about others.
Now, we all know Paul/Dragondreams set up SAForums, and to be honest, though i may have misread the situation, he and i now seem to get on well. Neither of us enjoy conflict or bearing a grudge, i think he's a sound guy, and he and i have exchanged messages on FB and other non-SAForums platforms, and he's ordered a physical copy of my new CD by mail order, the first person to do so. I thoroughly enjoyed Paul's 5090 CD and i hope he enjoys mine and gets at least his money's worth.
So me saying all that stuff was a total waste of my time and yours except that it's important to me that people don't just think i'm some hating shouting arsehole. Nothing could be further from the truth, as i hope i have just explained, and i maintain that the only people who jump to this conclusion and perpetuate this myth are small minded people who are happy to miss the subtleties of the world they live in.
I bet there are people reading this now in fact that think what an arse i am for hijacking this thread, and in fact it pisses me off probably more than anybody else that i've done that to yet another thread over the issue of SAForums but i will not be maligned or misrepresented, and for someone to ignore a genuine question and make fun of me like i am some worthless idiot just out to cause trouble is unacceptable, and it's something i thought i had left behind when i left SAForums.
Incidentally, i did have a song on the Wicked Songs compilation, and i am very happy that that song was included, since i know that at least one wicked song was not included on the basis that the songwriter was a 5090 member, and not a SAForums member. So unless they've changed that rule, i don't think i'll ever be eligible again for inclusion on one of their collections.
However i wish every individual that sees fit to spend their time on those forums all the very best, for the season, the new year, and just generally. And that's it.
And i'm sure this collection of christmas songs from the SAForums members will be fun, impressive and generally excellent.
And i'm sorry to have wasted your time, but as i say, i will always defend myself when misrepresented. In my opinion a person's good name is of paramount importance, and the modern tendency to so casually belittle somebody is worthy of nothing but contempt.
holy crap this is awesome, i'm glad i came back here! great job, everyone! thanks for populating my holiday playlist!
Goodness this thread has taken an interesting turn. Apologies for the lack of response Calum to your question, the post is no different to that used to announce the Wicked Songs thread.

To which you quite correctly noted.
" PS - only just noticed the incredibly careful wording in your first post, Gerry, just wanted to say that was very diplomatic, I didn't even notice till just now."
I guess I was being diplomatic again, the post was intended to inform 50/90 members of the activities of some fellow 50/90'ers. Therefore no requirement to mention any other web site or forum with the exception of the one on which the album is hosted.
You are correct there is no animosity between you and I, though I was a little taken aback by your response to the Winter Songs post and thought the appropriate response was to wish you a Merry Christmas. It is better that than to engage with negativity, the rest I'm afraid is as you wish to believe it.
ok sorry Gerry, i hope i didn't upset you, and i might say, i'm not being diplomatic when i say i am sure (though i haven't had time to listen yet) that it's a great collection of songs, and i hope you all have a great holiday season.
re: what i wish to believe, well i like to keep an open mind, but i'm also quite opinionated. Sadly many opinionated people are stubborn and hardly ever change their mind, so people assume that to be true of me as well. Actually, i don't like being in conflict with anybody, so yeah, i'm quite willing to change my opinion of a person or situation.
Anyway, rock on everybody, great that you've put this collection together, and best wishes for the holidays and for next year.
Calum, thank you for the kindly response, have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Well, we put the Winter Songs compilation on on christmas morning and listened to it the whole way through during presents/breakfast etc. Some very very good stuff on there. I think everybody shone in some way or other, but there were a few tracks in particular that stood out for me, and one of them was track one by Gerry and Nadia. Genuinely excellent work from both of you. As i say though everybody did a really good showing here, you can tell a lot of effort went into this.
PS - i just noticed Expendable Friend has just given the world a free christmas EP as well. I haven't checked it out yet, but you know she's a top class songwriter and musician so check it out: http://expendablefriend.bandcamp.com/album/death-by-tinsel
Thank you very much Calum for your kind words about my collaboration with Gerry
Happy New Year to you. Looking forward to hearing more songs from you and hope we can collaborate again

"A group of 50/90/Fawmer's and potential 50/90/Fawmer's"
So a group of songwriters, then?
Actually, looking at the tracks it might be more accurate to say a group of songwriters who are members of the Songsmiths Anonymous forum.
I'm sure it's a very good collection, most likely better than most christmas compilations anyway.
I think "Rakhoi" may be misspelt, by the way*, either that or it's been being misspelt on the forums all this time.
--
* in the event that someone is reading this after it has been corrected, let me say simply for clarification that it appears to be spelt "Rhakoi" on the page, i'm only trying to be helpful.
