song? Why?

Mine recently, currently is, "I don't want to fight no more" --Alabama Shakes. Because, it gets me right between the sticks, for some reason... dunno why, just luv 'it, them, her Smile

-----------------------------
Mainstream...? hmmm:
"Mainstream"... who knows *how* (?) to define it, but you get my drift!, I hope?

Sometimes the more one explains, the less clear they become Smile -- What I mean is... I can't know the song your local favorite bar-band in your town has just released. I guess you could link to it, but, was just thinking like, well, --stuff someone could possibly know without flying in to see for their self Smile
(And no, not from 5090/FAWM that already has a thread!)

However, maybe the more obscure is warranted? I dunno... Alabama Shakes was a garage band that went from covers, to mix, to just their stuff. They get featured on late night "music" shows, --"Austin City Limits", etc. other... so, imo, they are beyond "garage band" status at this point.

-- Oh, well...

[@nutation] - I'll have to give that Alabama Shakes song a listen.I like what I've heard from them.
My daughter is 15 and has now decided she prefers opera and show tunes to current pop.But when she did listen a few years ago, I liked a lot of it - "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift, "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk, anything by Adele or Ed Sheeran.
She still likes a band called Bastille that sounds good to me.

I assume by mainstream you mean Billboard hits of the last few years. In that case my very favorite is...

Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream". One of my top 5 songs of all time and a vital tune to me that took me right out of my rock only bubble and led the way for so much. Very important song in my life, it just blew me away when it came out. I love Katy's first two albums, like as albums. Not as singles, Katy made great album songs like Mannequin and I'm Still Breathing and Hummingbird Heartbeat and stuff. I will always hold affection for Katy but she's really done herself in for me in the few year.

I am also a big supporter of Carly Rae Jepsen, forget Call Me Maybe, Carly Rae made in my opinion the best mainstream pop album of the 2010's with Emotion, a truly amazing record that like no one bought...she makes such great stuff these days, her latest Cut To The Feeling was amazing.

I saw Katy Perry at Glastonbury last month and it was tremendous fun. She looked like she was having tons of fun and had a great stage show. That said, my partner put her record on in the car the other day and it did my head in. I do still like Roar though.

Anyway I like tons of pop music: Lorde, Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepson, Charley XCX, Lana Del Ray

I LOVE me some Shakes. Especially that song - the BOOM, KICK-BOOM BOOM is absolutely irresistible! I don't really know what mainstream means anymore though; I think most people I ask might say "Alabama WHO?" but they are definitely worldwide at this point, no doubt.

I really like DJ Shadow's "Nobody Speak" from last year, featuring Run The Jewels:

It has fonky, fonky samples, great beat, flow, and it perfectly captures a certain aspect about what the world has come to these days. “We wanted to make a positive, life-affirming video that captures politicians at their election-year best,” DJ Shadow wrote in the video’s YouTube description. “We got this instead.”

Shall I give you the top 50 or just all of them?

I enjoyed "All Aboard for Podunk", but that hasn't been a pop hit in ages. (I believe it was quite popular in 1890.)

I have a great fondness for pop music. I listen to modern music, too, but not modern mainstream artists.

Yes, Yam, -- nice lyric... no mp3, would love to hear how done. But I realize back then, "this" was it for your favorite musician to do 1890.

Don't know if this is "mainstream" but dang... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcUeothSPyc

Ship to Wreck by Florence and the machine

My daughters (8- and 10-years old) listen to all the current Billboard stuff. I enjoy most of it, but there's usually nothing that I'd go out of my way to listen to. However, one song that caught my ear a while back was "I Feel It Coming" by the Weeknd (with Daft Punk). I love the beat, the pre-chorus, the chorus, etc. So infectious! It's got this great Michael Jackson feel to it. I never seem to get tired of hearing it!

My daughters didn't mind the song at first, but as with all the current pop stuff, they soon moved on. Nowadays, they roll their eyes and groan every time it comes on the car radio, because I inevitably turn up the volume and go into "embarrassing dad" mode. Smile

I mostly like Weird Al's parodies of mainstream songs. Seriously that man is a musical genius and he blows my mind every time. I also like this (non Weird Al) parody... because I'm a renaissance faire performer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5Vo0gazKX0

Lady Gaga is my girl, so anything by her. I also like Lana Del Rey and Adele.

Hey Crisp -- nice..., very nice!

Ed Sheeran and John Mayer are on my current playlist. But I still like new stuff from the old timers too. Lindsey Buckingham and Chritine MacVie's new album is interesting. But the long awaited Roger Waters release Is This The Life We Really Want is an awesome bit of Roger rant if you're into that sort of thing.

Way beyond my normal listening cus basically I have old lady tastes, but I recently bought Beyonce's Lemonade because of all the talk around it. And I love it. Lots of variety and emotion and surprises.

Yeah, [@nutation], she blew me away the first time and then she blows me away again every time!
