WHAT: We'll have a song skirmish and it will go something like this:
1) At the start of the event, a title or theme will be announced.
2) All participants write and record a song to that title/theme. They have an hour to do so.
3) Participants share links to their songs. Fun and embarrassment ensues. But most importantly, one more song is written!

Be sure and tag your song and also post a link to it in this thread!

If you participate it is customary to listen to (or read) the songs of the other skirmish participants and comment!

Good luck and have fun!

I may actually be around for this!

Hey! Thanks a lot for this lovely skirmish!

I like this title, but I have places to be. In 3 minutes.
Edit: So Ill be late. *18825

Mine, late, rushed, etc. Thank you Corinne for your inspiring title!

not sure if I'm doing this correctly or if I have the right time...i'm in the U.S.
here are lyrics for

Downtown dreams. I'm at work so will write a melody later.

DOWNTOWN DREAMS by Tenney Whedon Walsh

Living on 10th street the harvest was always late
trees on the street my heart always behind a gate
I lived in a tenement building at the end of
a row of townhouses
a vegetarian restaurant below
the best tofu chocolate pudding you'd ever find.
We kissed outside pressing against the iron
wrought fence that probably held a horses
lead in Edith Wharton's day
but we were reading anais nin and miller
your coat had a fake sheepskin lining
your hair in a ponytail like jeff bridges
in The Fisher King but you weren't
looking for the grail or my heart
you wanted a girl with money that's
what I was taught my downtown
dreams were broken by the
dreams you had instead.
I left a few years later no tears had
been shed
I'm used to people leaving I
always let them go
my father left when
I was 4 so I
already know
how downtown dreams can
fall apart
it was in the summer of love
he left and now the memory
is still inside my head.

Hmm....Ok hopefully I've got it right this time---here's the song... just wrote it after work. There was an awkward pause/glitch after I sing "My father left when I was 4" and I left it in there because I think the pause is indicating I might want to write a bridge in there later. Okay. Thanks for all your wonderful comments

I almost just posted this as lyrics only, then pushed on until I was spent, took a few hours break, and then came back to have a fresher listen and futz around some more. It's not a skirmish, by any means (except the lyric itself). I haven't yet heard any of the others, and I'm going to crash for the night. Will check out all the others tomorrow! That was a very surprising turn, and a much welcomed burst of exploratory energy! Thanks @corinne54, as ever!
