Hi, I just mentioned in another post that I have a blog where I have parked a fair few sets of lyrics with no music, a lot of them from previous FAWM/5090s.
If anyone is looking for words (not that there aren't plenty on site already!) then feel free to drop into the blog and have a read, see if anything meets your requirements or strikes your fancy:
hm, I love "I want the wind, I want the rain." Gorgeous lyrics. I might do something with those..if I decide to do it, I'll add you as a collaborator (:
I like them all.
Alright, I've got all the music worked out for "I want the wind," so now I just need to put it together and then I'll upload it. Love it!
http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/7433 Here it is! This was a lot of fun...thanks for letting me use them (:
I've put music to "Forever Young" - http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/7416
"Regarding Kissing" is brilliant.
Thanks to Alfalfa and Shannon for adding some brilliant music to my lyrics - very touching!
TomS, have at it if you feel inspired! I like those lyrics too but have no clue whatsoever about how to set it to music
So is this okay in the 50/90 "rules?" Can we put music to lyrics that were written before July 4?
Or is this an impertinent question?
Ben, please see the "cheaters" thread!
(just kidding around, BTW)
Paul, I'm not sure I'm the one to set those to music, and I know that I am certainly not the one to sing them. But of the many lyrics you have posted there, these really jumped out. They are something special. I do know one or two people here who might be good for them. Mind if I point those people to them?
@benbradley, good question, I wondered about that myself - briefly - but thought that if someone had taken an old poem or some long forgotten folk song and re-presented it, that would probably be acceptable. The collaboration is the creation of a new song.
Anyway, I'm not really shooting for 50 songs, so I guess I'm breaking the "rules" right from the get-go! And if it going to cause a stushie, I'll readily forgo the collaboration status and let the other artists have the full credit for creating the song.
@TomS, yes, please do!
there are no real rules though.
I've got a collab in the pipeline with Donna Devine where she wrote her lyrics during FAWM and i waited till 5090 to do the music!
Rather than worrying about the rules, i'm actually quite pleased at the little 5090/FAWM crossover of that happening.
Thanks Calum, my sentiments exactly! Just good to get some new creations out there.
@benbradley, to save the miseries of the cheaters thread being re-opened:
Lyrics-only done for 5090 counts as one song, all agree.
Music-only (as instrumental)done for 5090 counts as one song, all agree.
Lyrics-and-music done together for 5090 counts as one song, all agree.
Putting new lyrics to existing music, same as the first.
Setting existing lyrics to new music, same as the second.
imho there are no cheaters, unless they're:
a) uploading old songs just to try and promote them to the rest of us
or
b) uploading cover versions of songs (especially lesser known ones, claiming they are originals)
ANYTHING ELSE is okay, but then i have no actual authority here.
Wow, thanks for sharing @paulmilne you've some wonderful lyrics there.
If it's alright, I might claim "regarding kissing"? I have a melody in mind a little á la Victoria Vox...
Hi Paul, I know I claimed Regarding Kissing a while ago, but I have finally done the demo (and added you as a collaborator). Hope you like it... http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/songs/11033
I know this isn't a cheating thread, but the topic has come up so I'm just gonna throw my 2 cents worth in. People are too caught up on "rules" and "winning". The overall goal of 50/90 or FAWM or any other musical challenge is to stimulate the creative process and make music. If you make music, you win. If you sit at home with your hands in your pocket complaining about other people's creative process, you lose. The fact that I will write fewer songs than some other people doesn't make them winners or me a loser.
And the thought that someone would actively stop themselves from creating or finishing a piece of music because some people might consider it "cheating" is just sad.
Just my 2 cents.

I'll have a look, thanks
