Liner Notes:

I actually wrote these lyrics back in July, so with the end of 50/90 fast approaching, it was high time to put them to music already! The story for this one was heavily inspired by the songs Jin-P's "Kagerou Days" and The Hush Sound's "Lighthouse", and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

For some more technical details: the pan flute was synthesized using the UTAU program, since I knew I wanted to use some sort of woodwind during the instrumental parts, and I happened to already have a pan flute UTAUloid on hand Some day I'll figure out how to make MIDI instruments sound more expressive so I don't always default to using UTAU instead, but that day is not today.

Lyrics:

[Verse]
Atop of the hill on the outside of town
An apple was planted for a love who was lost
It soon grew a tree there that gained some renown
As remembrance for lovers whose stars had been crossed

[Prechorus]
Under the tree sat the ghost of a girl long dead
She wore a sad smile, and to those who passed by, she said:

[Chorus]
“My lover has gone somewhere far, far away
So I’m waiting here till he comes back to me
Why not sit for a bit? You can rest in the shade
Come and join me beneath the apple tree”

[Verse]
One day a boy went to visit the tree
And the ghost girl repeated her simple refrain
They sat and they talked and they laughed merrily
Till the sun set and only the stars had remained

[Verse]
So the boy came to sit with her time and again
With the roots at their feet and the green leaves above
After so long, they were closer than friends
The boy and the ghost falling deeply in love

[Prechorus]
Under the tree sat the ghost of the girl long dead
She wore a big smile when the boy would come by, she said:

[Chorus]
“My love has returned to me day after day
And my heart has been healed again piece by piece
Come and sit for a bit, before I pass away
And move on from beneath the apple tree”

[Bridge]
“I love you”
     “I love you”
“More than you know”
“I know that I’ll see you again someday”
“I need you”
     “I need you”
“So please don’t go”
“All that we have to do is wait”

[Verse]
Atop of the hill on the outside of town
An apple was planted for a love who was lost
It soon grew a tree there that gained some renown
As remembrance for lovers whose stars had been crossed

[Prechorus]
Under the tree sat the ghost of a boy long dead
He wore a sad smile, and to those who passed by, he said:

[Chorus]
“My lover has gone somewhere far, far away
So I’m waiting here till she comes back to me
Why not sit for a bit? You can rest in the shade
Come and join me beneath the apple tree”

This was an awesome listen! The structure is pleasant and serves the story well.
I love the pan flute. Particularly in the little instrumental break after the bridge. So pretty!
The story itself is intriguing and subverted my expectations, sweet and sad and spooky. Awesome work!

Beautiful storytelling! The minor tonality suits the subject matter well, and the flute adds a very Celtic feel. Your voice is lovely. This is really nice!
